A relationship style in which the relationships with multiple partners stay very separate. Metamours don’t frequently interact. It is, perhaps, the opposite of kitchen table polyamory.

Paramour (noun) – A lover. In polyamory you may have a romantic relationship with one or more lovers. Those lovers may or may not have romantic or platonic relationships with each other.

Example

Chris is in a romantic relationship with Dottie, and Chris is also in a romantic relationship with Dennis, Dawn, and Diva. All of them are Chris’ Paramours.

A polyamorous person who introduces a new person (or new people) to polyamory.

Polya is a proposed replacement for poly, as a shortened version of polyamorous.

Polyamorist (noun) – A person who practices polyamory.

Example

Dennis is married to Dawn. Dennis and Dawn are both romantically involved with Chris. Dennis, Dawn, and Chris are all polyamorists.

Polyamorous (adjective) describing something as being related to polyamory.

Example

This is a polyamorous dictionary. It may benefit people engaged in polyamorous relationships.

Polyamory (noun) – The practice of having, or being open to having, more than one romantic partner. Polyamory is a popular form of ethical non-monogamy, where all partners involved enter into the arrangement as an explicit choice.

Example

Dennis is married to Dawn, but also is romantically involved with Chris. Dawn has full knowledge of the relationship between Dennis and Chris and Chris knows that Dennis and Dawn are married.

Polycutie (noun) – When a pair of lovers come upon a shared lover in a high state of adorability.

Example

Chris says to Dennis on encountering a reclined Dottie, “oh look at that polycutie.”
